FRANKLIN, Ky. (WTVF) — The new owners of Kentucky Downs in Franklin, Kentucky are pouring millions into the casino, hoping to pull some people away from Broadway and to their tables and racetrack.

They say they plan to make Kentucky Downs "bigger and better from top to bottom."

"So when you come in here a year from now, it wont look like what you are used to a totally different product," said Ron Winchell.

They've invested $25 million in improvements to the casino and racetrack.

"Over the next several months, you will see steel out of the ground, more visual pictures to share with you and community. We need to thank our local partners in Simpson County and city and thank our employees," Winchell said.

There will be more restaurants and a 20,000 square-foot building expansion while the existing buildings will be updated and given a more comfortable feel. The owners call their location strategic to Nashville and hope to lure visitors just up the road while they're in the city.

Construction is expected to wrap up around winter of 2020. You can learn more about the casino here.
