NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Power has been restored to some parts of North Nashville after this week’s deadly tornado moved through the area.

NES said Friday afternoon that 11,000 people in North Nashville and Germantown are still without power. The substation that provides much of the power to these areas received significant damage when the tornado hit early Tuesday morning.

In a press conference on Friday, Rep. Harold Love (D – Nashville) thanked the Nashville Electric Service for its progress in getting power to the area. He said their focus is to get residents back in their homes as quickly as possible.

Sen. Brenda Gilmore (D – Nashville) also urged residents to be careful of “unscrupulous developers” seeking the buy their properties unless they speak with an advisor first.

“Natural disasters do not discriminate and we must ensure that our public institutions deliver an equitable response to families in need, regardless of property values or zip codes,” Sen. Gilmore said.

Rep. Love, who is also the pastor at Lee Chapel AME Church, is using his sanctuary as a make-shift emergency response center for the community.

Many homes in the neighborhood are so badly damaged they'll have to be demolished.

Volunteers returned to the area on Friday, three days after the storms came through the neighborhood. Tennessee Titans players also stopped by to help move debris.
