NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — With more people choosing to walk, bike or take the bus in Nashville, pedestrian safety is becoming a bigger priority.

Conexión Américas and The Salahadeen Center of Nashville partnered with the Nashville Civic Design Center to improve safety on Nolensville Pike by painting some pedestrian zones blue. The group focused on the Elysian Fields intersection by the mosque.

On Thursday morning, the group also laid down white tape to create more visible crosswalks.

Over the next three weeks, high school students will monitor how well the temporary setup is working, including how people walk in the area and how often. The project is funded by Metro's Health Department.

About 1/2 mile from the intersection, the road by a bus stop in front of the Walmart on Nolensville Pike was named the most impossible place to cross in Nashville by Walk Bike Nashville. In five years, 22 people have been hit within 500 feet of the bus stop, including six incidents which were deadly.
