NASHVILLE, Tennessee -- Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk David Torrence now has a deadline: resign or face ouster.
It follows weeks of controversy about Torrence's work habits.
This comes a month after the DA's office first began investigating Torrence's activities.
Now, courthouse sources tell NewsChannel 5 Investigates that District Attorney General Torry Johnson has written Torrence, warning him that -- if he does not resign by July 15th -- Johnson will begin proceedings to force him from office.
Questions have swirled around the criminal court clerk ever since his admission that he only works three days a week -- at the same time he was collecting a full salary.
That may not be a crime. But the DA can begin ouster proceedings for an elected official neglecting his or her office.
Now comes decision time for David Torrence.
He did not return NewsChannel 5's telephone call.
But sources say he probably will resign. It's now just a matter of how and when.
