NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Neighbors said they are relieved to finally have answers after charges were filed against three suspects in a three-year-old murder case.

In July of 2017, Isha Musa and her son, Osmani Munongerwa, were found dead inside their Edgehill apartment. At the time, MNPD said they didn't have any suspects.

"You never forget it. You don't forget something like that," Michelle Manning, who lived near the apartment, said. "I remember I went up to look and found out that a mother and son had been killed just right across from where I lived."

Family members told NewsChannel 5 that they had waited years for answers. Next Thursday marked the three-year anniversary of the murders.

This week, MNPD announced indictments for three suspects.

Metro Police officials say 23-year-old Kendre Shields, 22-year-old Albert Mustapha, and 25-year-old Chasitie Smith have been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary and especially aggravated robbery in the killings of 37-year-old Isha Musa and 20-year-old Osmani Munongerwa.

Smith remains at large and detectives are working to locate her.

"There is a sense of satisfaction that you are moving towards a resolution," Det. Christopher Stevick said. Stevick had been working on the case since 2017.

"You keep wondering 'how many times am I going to have to hit this rock before it breaks?' but eventually it does," Stevick said.
