NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A total of 23 inmates at the Turney Center Industrial Complex took a major toward improving their futures by graduating college.

The inmates graduated from Nashville State Community College. Each one attended class while behind bars and took on the same course load as other Nashville State students.

A special graduation ceremony was held Thursday night. The inmates received their Associate Degrees in Business Adminstration and Poltical Science.

"I have limitless opportunities now. I can strive to do better. When I fill out a job application, I don't have to not have any type of job skills. I have a paper to go with it to move forward with my life," said Craig Carnes.

Their success was made possible thanks to a partnership with the Tennessee Higher Education Initiative as well as a partnership with the Northwest Correctional Complex.
