Teams from all over the country have joined rescue and relief efforts in Texas, aiding residents who were unable to evacuate.

Hurricane Harvey made landfall on Friday, Aug. 25, and heavy rains followed. Houston, the fourth-largest city in the United States in terms of population, has especially been hit hard.

Go here to see photos of rescues happening throughout that region.

As of Tuesday morning, Aug. 29, Houston police said they had rescued at least 3,400 people in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. That number is expected to rise, according to a tweet from Police Chief Art Acevedo. Shelters were housing more than 17,000 evacuees across Texas, Red Cross officials said in a tweet.
