The International Olympics Committee has officially awarded two cities with hosting summer Olympic Games — Paris in 2024 and Los Angeles in 2028.

The announcement was published after an IOC meeting in Lima, Peru, where the decision was expected.

Both cities made presentations with speeches and videos.

"It is hard to imagine something better. Ensuring the stability of the Olympic Games for the athletes of the world for the next 11 years is something extraordinary," said the IOC President, Thomas Bach, on the IOC website.

The double allocation is considered historic, the IOC says. The last time two hosts were decided at once was in 1921, when Paris was awarded the 1924 games and Amsterdam was awarded the 1928 games.
