There are only a few things on Earth that are universally loved, but none bring people together quite like pizza. Whether it’s round or square, New York-style or Chicago-style, hot or cold, pizza is enjoyed by people of all walks of life all over the world.
But according to one researcher, the way you eat your slice can say a lot about your personality.
Patti Wood, a body language expert in Atlanta, is a published author that has studied human behavior for years. Her research points to four different personality styles, what she calls the DiSC model: Dominance, influence, steadiness and conscientiousness. In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, Wood explained how you eat your pizza could be a sign of your personality type.
FOLDERS: Dominance.
People who fold their pizza are looking for the most efficient and quickest way to eat. People in this category get “straight to the point” while keeping the bigger picture in mind.
CRUST FIRST: Influencer.
We’re going to assume crust-first eaters do this with all pizza — not just stuffed crust. Influencers like to set trends and be different than their peers. To some, they’re revolutionary. To others? Insane.
UTENSILS: Steadiness.
Just because a person eats pizza with a knife and fork doesn’t make them pretentious. Those who fall in the “steadiness” category don’t like to be rushed, have a set routine and bring a calm approach to group work.
DIVE RIGHT IN: Conscientiousness.
Those who feel compelled to eat pizza the “traditional” way may have a fear of being wrong — or, they just know what they want. Those who fall into the conscientiousness category are “careful correctors” who go with their gut because they know it works.
