NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Organizers of the Christmas Village announced they are canceling this year's event due to COVID-19 concerns.
They would have celebrated the event's 60th anniversary, making the cancellation a tough decision for organizers.
The announcement was made to the Christmas Village's Facebook page:
"As difficult as it is to share, we have made the heart-wrenching decision to cancel Nashville’s Christmas Village 2020 . This is especially painful considering this year would have been our 60th anniversary of the event. This decision was not made lightly. The Christmas Village board has spent months exhaustively exploring possible solutions even as the ominous odds stacked higher and higher against us. Our top priority is to protect the integrity of this beloved event and that means keeping our volunteers, merchants and shoppers safe. Our efforts will be tireless as we explore new ways to support our philanthropies in 2020 and we will incorporate the evolving trends as we prepare for Christmas Village 2021. Our hope is that our 60th, although delayed, will be unforgettable. Mark your calendars for November 12-14, 2021 when we can finally be together again."
The Fairgrounds Nashville released the following statement on the cancellation:
“The Fairgrounds Nashville continues to closely monitor guidelines for reopening event venues as determined by Mayor John Cooper and the Metro Coronavirus Task Force. Because the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic are so fluid, we understand and support the difficult decisions made by our promoters to cancel or postpone their events. No doubt, the pandemic is negatively impacting small businesses that partner with us. We remain in full agreement with Mayor Cooper that the health and safety of the public is paramount and we are guided by that priority. We remain committed to supporting our promoters, vendors, our visitors and those who love the Fairgrounds.”
