NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Nashville Electric Service (NES) has announced a "Tornado Recovery Assistance" program to help customers impacted by the tornado with power restoration and late fees.

NES has announced they will waive the following fees for anyone impacted by the tornado:

  • Installation and connection fees for customers who require new service installation.
  • A $495 "cut-in fee" for temporary meter contractors' use to run power tools and equipment during preparation work
  • NES will not charge deposit fees or connection fees until June 3 for displaced customers who need service at a new location
  • Late fees will be reversed for impacted customers upon request through April 30.

For customers needing new service installation, they're asking customers to call 615-736-8000 once a contractor or electrician has been selected to prepare the structure to receive power so that installation work can be completed.

The utility company says they're prepared to expedite work orders as soon as buildings have been properly inspected by Metro or State Codes. Additionally, they say they're working with customers who must close their account due to the tornado to help them avoid collection activities.

NES has been working non-stop since the tornadoes hit, but several thousand remain without power as of Monday morning.
