NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Dozens of people came together on Saturday to celebrate Charles 'Wigg' Walker, a mainstay in the Nashville music scene.
Walker turned 80 years old in July, but COVID-19 restrictions prevented a big celebration. Walker, who plays at ACME Feed and Seed on Saturdays, instead celebrated the milestone on Saturday, just days after the Broadway honky-tonk reopened its doors. ACME opened as Nashville moved into phase three of its own reopening on October first.
Downtown leaders and friends attended the event, including Kathie Lee, who joined Walker on stage.
Walker was born in Nashville in 1940 and has played with greats like James Brown and Etta James. He returned to Nashville in the 1990s and has been a major part of the Music City blues and soul scene ever since.
