MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Murfreesboro couple was able to renew their wedding vows after being together for more than 15 years. The ceremony comes as the wife is battling stage four cancer.

For Scott and Cathy Hoag, their love story started off anything but spectacular. The two met online in 2004.

"Just got to talking.... led to a lot of talking... met a few weeks later," said Scott Hoag.

But the challenges they faced together is what makes their story truly remarkable.

"We been through a lot of tough times that would tear apart couples," said Cathy Hoag.

Cathy was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in August 2017. She has been battling the illness every day with Scott by her side. The two are staying strong for their two young boys, one is 12 years old, the other is 9.

"Things are going to get thrown at you and we want to teach them no matter what as a couple, you can get through it," said Cathy.

And its something Scott and Cathy will keep doing going forward, as long as they both shall live

"I just hope we have another 15 years together... keep my treatment and cancer stable and hoping for 15 more years and the chance to finish raising my kids," said Cathy.

This wedding was put together by the nonprofit group "Wish Upon A Wedding." The organization grants weddings and vow renewals to couples facing serious illness or a life-altering circumstance. "Wish Upon a Wedding" has helped over 125 couples say “I Do” since its launch in January 2010.

The wedding took place at Saddle Woods Farm in Murfreesboro, thanks to dozens of volunteers.
