In the wake of more mass shootings and uncertain times, more and more first responders have been outfitted with bullet proof vests to ensure the rescuers don't become victims.
Last year, Sumner County EMS outfitted all 92 of their EMS workers with bullet proof vests.
It cost the county more than $40,000, but officials said the cost is worth it to keep first responders safe.
"It’s another tool in their toolbar, another thing that keeps them safe and at the end of the day they go home to their families," Assistant Chief Sam Clark said.
