NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It's loud and busy. People will tell you Broadway offers party goers plenty of fun every day of the week.

"The people are always great. It's always a good time and we need that in this world. You know what I mean. We need that a lot right now," tourist Pam Harris said.

But the nightlife scene can get out on control and many locals say the noise and disorderly behavior needs to be reined in.

Metro Police said a new Entertainment District Unit will operate out of the Central Precinct beginning next year.

Starting in February 30 police officers, four sergeants, and one lieutenant will patrol Lower Broadway full time.

Police said the district has two goals, one of which is to reduce the need for mandated overtime. The second goal is to have a unit that will be able to build relationships with business owners and managers in the entertainment district.

Metro Police said officers get to rank their desired postings and shifts. Working in the entertainment district will be an option this year.
