MAURY CO., Tenn. (WTVF) — Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia is temporarily suspending many elective procedures due to patient capacity.
Hospital officials stated they've had 50 patients with COVID-19 this week, an all-time high for their facility. Twenty of those patients are in the ICU.
Maury Regional Health CEO Alan Watson said they've consistently seen COVID spikes after holidays and relates the latest increase to recent fall breaks.
Starting Monday, the hospital will not conduct elective procedures that require an overnight stay. The hospital will reevaluate after November 9.
“The time has long passed for our community to take this virus seriously," Watson said. "We are seeing the impact of our community letting down their guard and we must make every effort to mitigate the spread of this virus so that it does not further tax health care providers across Middle Tennessee and the entire state. We implore all Tennesseans to protect yourself and others by masking, social distancing and hand washing."
