Periut was a firefighter in Maury County for six years. He served in the U.S. Air Force for about three and a half years before making the move to the Space Force.

The Facebook Post read:
"We could not be prouder of one of our long time members, Josh Periut, who was commissioned into the United States Space Force today as a 1st Lt after serving with the United States Air Force for approximately 3 1/2 years. Josh is the son of Asst Chief Jose Periut and FF Tracy Eddins Periut. Josh and his wife Briana Jo Periut along with their son live in Colorado. Please join us in congratulating 1st Lt Periut for being selected for such a prestigious opportunity to serve on the ground floor of a new branch of the military."
