The Tennessee Historical Commission placed a marker outside Jubilee Hall to honor the original group of Fisk Jubilee singers.
They made history more than one hundred years ago.
In 1871, they introduced Negro spirituals to the world in an effort to raise money for the school even buying the land where the marker and building currently sit.
"Its a great honor for us to have this historical marker and I'm hoping that in the next 150 years some young people will come around and ask 'who were the jubilee singers?' and many people will get to know more," said Dr. Paul Kwami.
The Jubilee Singers marker is just one of 40 on campus.
