Metro Nashville detectives have arrested one man and are looking for another in connection with the beating death of their friend in early May.

South Precinct detectives announced late Wednesday that Derrick Asbury, age 50, is charged with criminal homicide for the beating death of his acquaintance Alfred Jenkins.

Investigators said Jenkins was assaulted on May 2 near the intersection of Lincoln and Lafayette Streets.

This week, he succumbed to his injuries after spending weeks at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

A second man, Gerold Askew, age 52, is wanted in the case. Investigators said Asbury, Askew, and Jenkins were together on the morning of May 2 when Jenkins and Askew got into a fight.

According to police, Asbury also got involved and later admitted to officers he struck Jenkins on the head with a stick. Investigators have information that Askew kicked Jenkins while he was on the ground.

Askew has not been located as of Thursday morning. Investigators said he is homeless. If you see him or know where he may be, call Crime Stoppers at (615) 742-7463.
