A Nashville man was shot and killed when his friend's gun went off accidentally. Police deemed the shooting unintentional.
The 20-year-old shooter, Dedrick Wade, told detectives he and his friend were inside a home on South Lyle Lane when he began handling a gun that he thought was unloaded.
Wade said when he pulled the trigger, the weapon fired, wounding his friend in the head. Wade then took the victim to his car and was on the way to Southern Hills Medical Center when he pulled over in the 3900 block of Nolensville Pike and called 911.
Police said Wade was cooperative with South Precinct detectives. The circumstances remained under investigation and will be staffed with the District Attorney’s Office.
Police said Wade would not be charged.
