A man headed to his father's funeral was reportedly killed in an accidental fall, according to officials in Giles County.
Emergency crews responded to an area on Highway 64 East around 11:30 p.m. on June 7 after reports stated someone had fallen off a bridge.
Deputies and medics found 30-year-old James Johnson under the bridge. He was unresponsive on the ground.
Johnson was taken to an emergency room where doctors confirmed he had passed away.
Officials said Johnson and others had been on their way to a funeral in Sparta for Johnson's father.
A tire on their vehicle had a blow out, so they stopped on the bridge.
While someone replaced the tire, Johnson was waiting on the edge of the bridge. He reportedly looked over, lost his balance, and fell.
The state medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy, as well as testing for a toxicology report.
The investigation remained ongoing.
