A Tennessee man had to be flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center after being injured by a bison on July 4.

According to Land Between the Lakes, the 37-year-old man from Stewart County was injured inside the restricted area of the South Bison Range.

“We continue to stress to the public that bison and elk are wild animals," said Curtis Fowler, wildlife technician at Land Between the Lakes. “Bison will aggressively protect their calves by confronting any perceived threat.”

The man remains at Vandy where he is listed in stable condition.

Land Between the Lakes has two bison enclosures on site.

The enclosure offers people an opportunity to drive through and observe animals in their native habitat.
