NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man has been taken into custody after he allegedly shot his brother more than two weeks ago during a dispute.
Officials with Metro police said Trel Gates was arrested after an officer recognized him following a previous incident at a car lot a couple weeks prior to the shooting. In that case, Gates allegedly became disorderly at a dealership on Dickerson Pike.
The officer recognized Gates and his vehicle based on a description provided by his brother.
Gates has been accused of shooting his brother on 14th Street in East Nashville. It was not known what led up to the confrontation.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.
He was able to tell police that Gates drove away in a Hummer SUV.
The officer who recognized Gates went back to the lot knowing they had a tracking device for the vehicles they sold. He spoke with the clerk and confirmed that Gates had recently purchased the Hummer.
They began tracking the vehicle and stopped Gates in south Nashville, where he briefly fled on foot but was eventually caught.
Gates was charged with attempted criminal homicide and was held on a $250,000 bond.
