LOBELVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Labor Day ended in tragedy for a group of friends when Brandon Archer, a 21-year-old former MTSU football player, drowned in the Buffalo River.
Emergency crews responded to the river near Lobelville Monday. His friends said he began to struggle in the water, went under and never resurfaced.
MTSU confirmed his death in a tweet Tuesday, saying: "We are saddened to hear about the loss of former Blue Raider Brandon Archer. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."

Perry County Emergency Management Agency Director Gary Rogers said Archer was in about nine to 10 feet of water when it happened.
Crews from Perry County EMA, Lobelville Fire and the Perry Co. Sheriff's Department recovered his body.
