SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Spring Hill man was arrested on stolen valor charges Thursday, Maury County Sheriff's Department said.

The charges against 58-year-old Chris Wesley Williams stem from an investigation into a complaint he was claiming to have received military medals and commendations he never received.

Williams is said to have had Purple Heart car tags on his car while he was never awarded the medal.

Purple Heart tags are free for life for Purple Heart recipients. Investigators learned Williams had altered his DD-214 discharge paperwork to show he had received the honor, as well as other awards.

It was also learned Williams was discharged "other than honorable" from the Marine Corps in 1981, after he was found AWOL.

Williams was booked into the Maury County jail and released on a $5,000 bond. His mugshot below is the mugshot that was provided to us by the sheriff's office.
