Peggy Say, who spent nearly seven years in a tireless quest for the release of her brother, journalist Terry Anderson, and fellow hostages from kidnappers in Lebanon, has died. She was 74.
Anderson, the chief Middle East correspondent for The Associated Press when he was abducted in Beirut in 1985, said his sister died Wednesday after a lung illness. She had been living in Cookeville, about 70 miles east of Nashville.
The self-described housewife became a prominent advocate, keeping the fate of her brother and the other hostages in the public eye as the years went by.
Anderson was released on December 4, 1991. He was the longest-held of 92 foreigners abducted during Lebanon's civil war. Most were freed. Eleven died or were believed killed in captivity.
