A woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in Smyrna that killed a 29-year-old woman.
The incident happened July 10 when the victim, identified as Elise Denton, was hit by a truck while riding her Honda scooter on South Lowry Street.
Officials said 25-year-old Cortney Barrett, of Murfreesboro, was identified as a suspect.
Barrett allegedly left Denton’s body in the street as she fled the scene.
A witness said Barrett also dragged the scooter for a quarter of a mile before getting out, removing the wreckage from under the truck, and driving away.
Denton was a nurse at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville and was recently laid to rest.
A tip led detectives to the suspect’s vehicle on July 12, which helped them identify the suspect.
A warrant was issued for Barrett’s arrest, charging her with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Authorities confirmed other charges were pending.
