Upon arriving at The Hermitage, President Donald Trump toured Andrew Jackson's home and laid a wreath on his tomb.

For those waiting to see the president at or near The Hermitage, anticipation was the name of the game on Wednesday.

"This is the first time I've been this close to a sitting president, so that's pretty exciting,” said Martha Hodges.

Dozens of people gathered outside The Hermitage with hopes of seeing President Trump’s motorcade drive by.

Meanwhile, five-year-old Jackson Hite did what he could to pass the time. He's never seen a president, and his dad thought this would be a good opportunity for him to witness history.

"I just like Trump, and I’ve never seen him in real life,” Jackson said.

Before too long, the motorcade arrived, and the president began his tour of Andrew Jackson's home on what would have been Jackson’s 250th birthday, laying a wreath on Jackson's tomb to commemorate the moment.

Before leaving, the President addressed the crowd.

"What a nice visit this was,” the president said. “Inspirational visit, I have to tell you."

A painting of Andrew Jackson hangs in the Oval Office, and plenty of people have made comparisons between the 7th and 45th presidents.

"Clearly he came here to learn more about Andrew Jackson,” said Howard Kittell, President and CEO of Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage.

Both presidents were involved in controversy, considered outsiders, and champions of the populist movement.

"Andrew Jackson, we thank you for your service, we honor you for your memory,” President Trump said. “We build on your legacy, and we thank God for the United States of America. Thank you very much everybody."

After leaving Nashville, President Trump spoke to the press and was asked about his trip to The Hermitage.

"I thought it was amazing," he said.

The wreath laid on Andrew Jackson's tomb by President Trump to commemorate his 250th birthday will remain there throughout all of the weekend birthday celebrations at The Hermitage.
