Veterans who've fallen on hard times have a new option for housing in the Nashville area.

The new Patriot Place was built to be a 34-unit, furnished apartment complex in Madison.

The complex was made for homeless veterans only, and Consuelo Brown was one of the first tenants.

She served in the Army for 13 years but spent much of the last three years living in her car.

She said she can't believe she has a brand new home.

“To know all main expenditures taken care of, I can’t thank everyone enough,” Brown said. “I can't but I’m grateful. I’m grateful.”

MDHA, Buffalo Valley, and various public and private agencies helped secure the $2.3 million funding for the project.

Brown and the others have planned to move into the complex in March.
