Metro Nashville Public Schools will not be in session on August 21 for the solar eclipse.
The school board voted unanimously to have a day off for all employees and students on the day of the eclipse.
The decision was made Tuesday. Many safety concerns had been discussed, including not wanting any high school students to drive during the eclipse.
They also stated a survey found many teachers and bus drivers had planned to be off that day.
Other safety reasons included special needs for children who may have been in need of medications and adult supervision during the eclipse.
