A man has been arrested on a DUI charge after crashing his car into a building and fleeing from the scene.
Authorities said 25-year-old Jonathan Shehata, a Clarksville resident with a New York driver’s license, allegedly crashed his Cadillac into a motorcycle shop in the 2100 block of Lowes Drive in Clarksville just before 1 a.m. Thursday.
According to reports, Shehata’s car left the road at a high rate of speed and went through the outer wall of the shop.
When officers arrived on scene, they found the car unoccupied, but a witness described the man who had fled just before authorities showed up.
Officials then found Shehata at a nearby bar and grill. They also seized a semi-automatic pistol from him during a search.
Shehata was charged with driving under the influence, violation of implied consent, and possession of a firearm with alcohol.
According to a police report, Shehata was arrested a week before, also on a charge of DUI, when he was involved in a crash with another vehicle at Needmore and Union Hall Road.
Shehata was being held in jail on the new charges on a $50,000 bond.
