The 2016 Wild West Comedy Festival officially kicked off Sunday morning at 5 a.m. with the start of the second annual Broken Record Show.
The Broken Record Show has been a stand-up comedy event where for more than eight days straight, 24 hours a day, comedians from Nashville and around the world will take to the stage as part of a record-breaking comedy event.
"Last year we did 184 hours and 16 minutes," Chad Riden, producer of the Broken Record Show, said.
The time achieved last year more than doubled the previous world record, and this year, organizers have planned to beat their own record by five minutes.
"We've already got the world record, there's absolutely no rationale that could justify doing this, and that's why we have to do it because it's so stupid!" Riden said.
Nashville has been known for the music, but Riden said that as the years go by, the comedy scene in Nashville has been getting better and better.
"There's a lot of young guys that are really smart, really funny, working really hard, writing new material every week, starting shows, creating their own opportunities," Riden said.
One of the performers on day one was Aaron Weber, who took the stage around 11:30 a.m.
Weber has been calling Nashville home and uses real life experiences and events for his comedy acts, and he said he's happy to be a part of the Broken Record Show, testing his own stamina.
"I actually fell asleep at 7:30 in the morning because I got here at 5, and they had to wake me up," Weber said.
The Broken Record Show has been set to showcase more than 120 comics over eight days, with many comics performing multiple times.
Weber, for example, has been scheduled to take the stage a total of nine times over the eight days.
The Broken Record Show will feature many comics that are participating in the larger shows of the Wild West Comedy Festival, and it gives people a chance to see celebrities and popular comics up close in a more relaxed setting.
Tickets to the Broken Record Show have been priced at $10 per day, or $60 for the whole eight-day period, and ticket holders may come and go as they please during the 24-hour period.
