A family in Paragon Mills said they were just feet away from a van that almost crashed into their home overnight.
Joseph Johnson, one of the men who lives at the home on Scotwood Drive, said the suspected drunk driver came down a hill and crashed into their truck, then through their wooden fence.
The van the man was driving flipped over on its side and had to be towed, leaving behind a lot of damage. The incident happened before 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Johnson said there were beer bottles at the scene, and the van smelled like alcohol.
“It’s really scary,” Johnson said. “It's hard to get a good night’s rest at night thinking that some drunk driver is going to come down the hill in front of our house and kill one of us.”
Johnson said the driver left before the police got there, but forgot to take his cell phone and wallet with him. He has hoped it helps investigators track the man down. The man was allegedly picked up in another vehicle.
According to the family, this was the sixth time something similar to this crash has happened at that home. The truck the man hit helped keep the van from hitting the house.
The investigation remained ongoing.
