A 10-year-old boy has passed away after drowning in an apartment complex swimming pool.
Authorities said the incident happened just before 3:45 p.m. Saturday at the Stonebrook Apartments located in the 100 block of Hickory Trace Drive.
Those with the Nashville Fire Department took the child, identified as Irankunda Shukurn, to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Authorities confirmed he passed away.
On Sunday, authorities said the drowning appeared to be accidental. According to reports, Irankunda had gone into the deep end of the pool and had not resurfaced. Those at the scene tried to revive him but were unsuccessful.
The victim's family had recently arrived in the U.S. from the Congo.
Officials said Youth Services investigators responded to determine what happened leading up to the child’s death.
