Police said they’ve been searching for a diner customer who allegedly stole money overnight from a local restaurant.
The incident happened at the Waffle House in the 5700 block of Old Hickory Boulevard just before midnight Tuesday.
Police confirmed the female suspect got away with cash, but they had not released how much. She was still on the run Wednesday morning.
The police captain said the woman ordered hash browns at the counter and then went to the bathroom.
When she came back, she jumped over the counter and grabbed cash from the register.
Authorities said they originally thought she ran into a nearby motel, but surveillance video showed her running down Central Pike.
Officials said there were at least four or five people inside the restaurant at the time of the crime. The suspect did allegedly elbow one customer in the eye on her way out the door.
Metro Police spoke with witnesses, and authorities with the Hermitage Precinct have taken over the investigation
Police described the suspect as a black woman, weighing approximately 200 pounds, wearing black pants and a hoodie.
The 24-hour business had locked its doors Wednesday morning, and employees were not allowing customers to come inside while the investigation continued.
