A 17-year-old was shot and killed in La Vergne when he reportedly responded to an advertisement of a cellphone for sale.

Authorities said 17-year-old Yudjy F. Cherubin, a La Vergne High School student, was killed Monday night at a vacant condo in the 2000 block of George Buchanan Drive.

Police said Cherubin was lured to the condo because he was responding to an ad of an iPhone for sale.

A 911 call Monday night around 7:40 p.m. stated the teen had been shot in the face. The shooting happened during an alleged robbery.

Cherubin was taken to the emergency room at Vanderbilt University Medical Center by Rutherford County EMS.

Police said they were notified Cherubin had died around 10:15 p.m. Monday.

A 17-year-old was taken into custody at 11:53 p.m. and was being held at the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center.

On Tuesday, authorities confirmed a second 17-year-old suspect had been taken into custody.

“This is a case involving two 17-year-old robbery and murder suspects. We are prohibited from identifying them at this time because of their ages,” said La Vergne Police Chief Mike Walker.

Detectives have been working to identify potential witnesses and possible suspects.

The investigation remained ongoing.
