NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — New details have emerged in the high-profile Joe Clyde Daniels case from his jailed mother, Krystal.

Krystal Daniels is accused of failing to protect her son. Her husband Joseph Daniels has been charged with killing the boy.

Now after months of silence, Krystal is talking exclusively to NewsChannel 5.

She remains locked up on $1 million bond and has said nothing publicly until now. I spoke with her by phone from her Dickson County Jail cell.

“I don't want people to be looking for my son's remains. I want them to be looking for him,” she said.

Daniels believes her 5-year-old son, who disappeared from their home in April of 2018, may actually still be alive. Her belief is he wandered away from the home, as he sometimes would do, and could have been abducted.

However, police believe Joe Clyde to be dead and say his father, Joseph, confessed to killing him but Joseph now says he was coerced.

What does Krystal Daniels think?

“Me… I can honestly say if [Joseph Daniels] did something like that he needs to tell where he put the baby,” she said. “If he did something like that.”

When asked if she thought Joseph was capable of killing Joe Clyde, she responded: “I mean I don't think that he would. I mean, he's never really been like that… you know, the abusive type.”

Daniels says she understands the public's anger over the case and she can feel it during her court appearances. But she insists she's as much in the dark as everyone else and also wants answers.

It's important to note though that Daniels told a different story to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation last year.

At a preliminary hearing, an agent testified she told him she heard a scream and saw her husband standing over her son with a fist and that she then went back to bed -- contradicting herself.
