DICKSON, Tenn. (WTVF) — An investigation is underway in a shooting involving a 23rd Judicial drug task force officer in Dickson County early Friday morning.
Officials say the incident began as a traffic stop of an SUV around midnight on I-40 at the Dickson exit. The driver and passenger stepped out of the vehicle while it was being searched.
According to police, one of the men who was believed to be the driver, grabbed an officer and his gun and a fight ensued. He then re-entered the SUV and backed it into the task force agent's vehicle.
Another officer got into the vehicle to subdue him, and early reports lead detectives to believe the driver grabbed the officers drawn weapon. The agent fired his weapon and the suspect was shot, subsequently dying at the scene.
The passenger and officers were uninjured.
