Opryland Resort is going to the Grinch this year. NewsChannel 5 has your behind-the-scenes look at this year's ICE! featuring Dr. Seuss' classic tale.

"I enjoy the process of carving," said a professional ice carver, who introduced himself as Gao.

It's only 9 degrees, but he has spent more than 15 years as an ice carver, so he's used to working in freezing conditions.

"The temperature is very low but we work together as a team and it works out really well," he said.

Goa is from Harbin in Northeast China, where winter rules almost half the year. This year, he and his team brought the magic of Whoville to Nashville, using 2 million pounds of ice to tell the story of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

The ice can be colorful, white, or perfectly clear.

"It's highly-filtered -- so it creates a crystal clear affect," said Rob Regg with Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center.

"This is the 35th annual Country Christmas so it's fun to try to get bigger and better every year. We keep adding holiday lights. We keep adding shows," he said.

This year's display represents weeks of work.

ICE! is open to November 9 through January 1. Click here for more information.
