NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Police are investigating a deadly shooting just off Interstate 440 at the I-65 exit.
Police say what appears to have started as a robbery at the Green Hills Mall ended with a wreck just off of 440 at I-65. The interstate remains closed at this hour as police investigate.
Metro Police spokesman Don Aaron says it appears a shopper was robbed by two people in the parking lot of Green Hills Mall. It's unclear exactly what happened but police say one of the suspected robbers was shot during the robbery but managed to drive away.
Police say that even though the driver was shot, he somehow managed to drive down Hillsboro Pike onto I-440 and all the way down to exit 5 where you get onto I-65.
Police say when the car crashed the passenger took off running and threw a gun over an embankment. The driver was still inside the car and later died. The passenger was arrested.
Police are still looking for the shopper at the mall. They say the shopper was a victim but detectives still need to talk to them to find out what happened. If you have any information about the robbery or shooting, please call Metro Police or CrimeStoppers at 615-74-CRIME.
Police hope to have the interstate reopened within the next hour.
