NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A pinnacle of Tennessee and Black history in Nashville was honored by the Metro Historical Commission this week.

Today, the Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church has two locations, one in Nashville and another in Murfreesboro, but back when the church was founded in 1871, it stood near present-day Cane Ridge Road.

Historians say the church was a staple of the community just a few years after the abolition of slavery. The church also provided the only school for black children in the area at the time.
