HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — According to city ordinance in Hendersonville, homeowners cannot rent their property to people for less than 30 days. If you violate the ordinance you will be fined $50 per day plus court fees, but Mayor Jamie Clary says it isn't stopping people from violating the law.
Court documents show that James Allen faces at least 30 counts of violating the ordinance for his North Country Club Drive property. Allen was fined nearly $189 for each count. Allen has appealed these violations to Sumner County circuit court.
Neighbors of this home say they are reaching their breaking point.
"They're bringing the party," said Tracy Biller, Blue Ridge Subdivision Homeowners Association president, "We also don't know whos staying there....we only know one person but the other 16 or some people staying in there we don't know."
Mayor Clary thinks the fine should be bigger to keep repeat offenders from stopping their business.
"The state of Tennessee forbids us from fining them more than 50 dollars plus court cost so this is just the cost of doing business for someone like this," said Mayor Clary.
We contacted James Allen by phone and he refused to do an interview with us.
