NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Nashville joined the rest of the country in celebrating the 99th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.

It was August 18, 1920 when the 19th amendment was ratified giving all women the right to vote.

Men and women gathered Friday afternoon at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park to appreciate the history of the women's suffrage movement and its importance.

Three-fourths of state legislatures had to pass the amendment before it became law. Tennessee was the 36th and final state needed to do just that 99 years ago.
