Denver Schimming knew he wanted one thing for his birthday: tickets to see Garth Brooks perform at Bridgestone Arena in December.
Since Brooks lives just a few miles away from Schimming, he did what any logical neighbor would do and put up a yard sign advertising his services.
"Garth, my birthday is November 6th," the sign read. "Will work for tickets. Please."
Schimming had no idea Brooks' daughter would happen to see the sign and pass the message along.
"I didn't expect anything to come of it," he said.
But on Friday afternoon, Schimming heard a knock at his front door, and when he looked through the glass, he couldn't believe his eyes.
"The first thing I said was, 'There's no way that's him,'" he said.
Brooks was standing on Schimming's front porch.
"He shook my hand, gave me a big bear hug, and said, 'Merry Christmas,'" Schimming said. "He handed me an envelope, and I mean, what do you say?"
Inside that envelope were six lower level tickets to Brooks' December 16 show. Schimming has planned to attend with his wife and four friends.
On Monday, there was a new sign in Schimming's yard. It said "Thank you, Garth!"
