The Gallatin Police Department was honored by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office for its officers' continued work of keeping people safe while on the road.
During a press conference Tuesday, the department was awarded with the Championship Award and The Motorcycle Safety Award.
The Championship Award honored the agency with the highest average overall score for 2015 and 2016 combined.
The Motorcycle Safety Award honored them for excelling overall in the enforcement and education of motorcycle safety, including helmet use, excessive speed and impaired driving.
The Department also placed second in the State Award, which recognizes agencies that excel in the enforcement and education of impaired driving, speed and occupant protection such as seat belt and child passenger safety.
As part of the awards, the department was given a new 2015 fully equipped police vehicle.
