Plans have been made to honor veterans past, present and future in Cheatham County.
A new Veterans Memorial of Pleasant View will be built at the Pleasant View Community Park. The North Cheatham Civitan Club is coordinating the effort for the city’s first and only veterans memorial.
“A lot of people drive long distances to see memorials like this,” said Misty Keenan, President of North Cheatham Civitan Club. “We wanted to make something local here.”
The memorial will be located by the entrance of the park, by the three existing flag poles. The square design features an 8 foot granite monument in the middle. The space also features room for about 1200 pavers that will feature names of veterans. The memorial is designed to honor all veterans, not exclusively veterans from Pleasant View. The names of the two Pleasant View residents who died in battle will be engraved near the granite monument.

The process started last May, and supporters said it has been great to see it come together.
“To me, it’s just so exciting to have something like this,” said George Leasure, a veteran and Pleasant View Alderman. “This is something you can put out on the interstate and people will come and see it.”
The North Cheatham Civitan Club needs to sell 300 pavers before construction can begin. Leasure estimated the total cost of the memorial is about $32,000.
Keenan said there are a large number of veterans who live in Pleasant View and this is something the entire community will be able to enjoy.
A Beer Garden fundraiser is scheduled for the Veterans Memorial on Apr. 9 at the Pleasant View Village Block Party. Keenan said other fundraisers may follow in the future.
