A former Wilson Central High School softball coach was charged with statutory rape by an authority figure.
Michael Shepard, a former high school coach of the year, was fired last week from the school after a criminal investigation.
He used to be the girl's softball coach, but stepped down when authorities started investigating him for misconduct.
Shepard is in the Wilson County jail tonight.
