Former Metro councilman Loniel Greene Jr. died Wednesday after being hospitalized.
Greene was hospitalized last week, but his condition was not released, nor was it clear what he was suffering from.
State Representative Brenda Gilmore released the following statement in response to the news of his passing:
"On behalf of the community, we extend our deepest sympathy to the Loniel Greene family. Especially, we are praying for his mother, who has shown amazing courage throughout this ordeal. Although Councilman Greene’s tenure was very short in District One, we thank him for his service and the good he was able to do during that time."
Greene's history as a councilman ended amid controversy when he resigned in January of 2016.
He was disbarred from practicing law in November 2017 and was sentenced to two years probation after being found guilty of coercion of a witness, a class D felony.
