NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It's a campaign for cash in Nashville, as we're beginning to get an idea of the money it may take this year to be elected mayor.
The first set of campaign finance disclosures just came out, and they show a lopsided fund raising battle -- though Mayor David Briley's only challenger has only been in the race a few weeks.
The campaign filings show Briley -- who announced his candidacy for mayor last year -- has raised nearly $367,000.
So far only one other person has declared to challenge Briley in his try at his first full term: State Rep. John Ray Clemmons (D-Nashville), who announced his candidacy last month.
He's raised just more than $136,000 so far.
But $100,000 of Clemmons' fund raising came from himself -- a personal loan.
And with other officials poised to announce that they too will be running for the Mayor's office, NewsChannel 5 Political analyst Pat Nolan says a candidates ability to raise money will become even more important.
"That could change the dynamics of the race quite a bit -- also when you get to a situation with 3-4 candidates you get in a situation where you can have a runoff," Nolan said.
