NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Tennessee's First Lady went to Second Harvest Food Bank on Monday to pack some nutrition boxes for seniors and kick off her initiative called "Tennessee Serves."
Maria Lee told NewsChannel 5 that serving is just part of her heart and it does great things for you and the people you're helping.
"We have a Tennessee Kids Serves Summer Challenge coming up where we're going to challenge kids, kindergarten through rising 6th graders to serve this summer out and get it off the ground running." Lee said.
The Kids Challenge runs June 1st through August 1st. During this time, participants will log their summer service hours and those with the most hours at the end of the summer will be invited to attend a Summer Service Carnival Event at the Governor and First Lady's home!
And for all the adults out there - the First Lady is throwing down the gauntlet; she wants to challenge you to serve your community. Lee has posted a calendar that gives daily tasks to those who want to help serve their community.
